In this study group we learn to use herbs to address the health and wellness of ourselves, friends and family from the plants that grow around us here in the midwest. Based on the energetic principles of western herbalism (integrated with concepts from TCM, Ayurveda and other systems), we will focus on learning to recognize patterns such as excess and deficiency, hot and cold, dry and damp, tense and lax, rather than simply knowing chemical constituents or memorizing a list of problems and associated herbs. We will focus on understanding the foundational properties of how herbs work, how the body and its systems function, how to use our senses, intellect and intuition to develop our understanding of herbs.

Flavors and Constitutions based on the 4 humours: Sanguine, Choleric, Phlegmatic & Melancholic. Very useful information for herbalists and bodyworkers alike to use when assessing clients, and for working and communicating with them.

We won’t be memorizing lists, instead we'll be making tinctures, teas and salves (and other things), experiencing the herbs as a way of understanding them. We will meet Monday evenings once per month. To support the Monday evenings, we will also schedule day time meetings where we will go out and gather the herbs, learning what to pick when and how to harvest sustainably. The daytime meetings will be scheduled depending on availability of the group and weather.

The study group is free but there may be a materials fee for certain sessions. Please RSVP for each session so we can make sure we have enough materials for everyone.

The series will be supported by information from a few great texts.
