Like an iceberg, where the majority of the mass exists below the water's surface, the Level 1 sequence contains more depth than is initially apparent. While it is introductory and may seem simple, it is a very rich launching point for exploring deeper layers of technique, moving energy, and how we approach the client's body. The level 1 sequence, itself a condensed form of the full Northern style sequence, contains all of the theory of Thai massage. From the microcosmic view of what is happening at the tissue level, to the macrocosmic level, where the Level 1 sequence contains a very logical way of working through the body and if understood well, can be an invaluable aid in knowing how to structure a treatment. In the hands of someone who truly knows how to work with the body, interpret the tissues, and how to facilitate change, the Level 1 sequence is a complete form. More info...

All levels are welcome, but the student must have prior Thai bodywork training. Tuition: $0.00

In this study group we learn to use herbs to address the health and wellness of ourselves, friends and family from the plants that grow around us here in the midwest. Based on the energetic principles of western herbalism (integrated with concepts from TCM, Ayurveda and other systems), we will focus on learning to recognize patterns such as excess and deficiency, hot and cold, dry and damp, tense and lax, rather than simply knowing chemical constituents or memorizing a list of problems and associated herbs. We will focus on understanding the foundational properties of how herbs work, how the body and its systems function, how to use our senses, intellect and intuition to develop our understanding of herbs. We won’t be memorizing lists, instead we'll be making tinctures, teas and salves (and other things), experiencing the herbs as a way of understanding them. We will meet Monday evenings once per month. To support the Monday evenings, we will also schedule day time meetings where we will go out and gather the herbs, learning what to pick when and how to harvest sustainably. The daytime meetings will be scheduled depending on availability of the group and weather. The study group is free but there may be a materials fee for certain sessions. Please RSVP for each session so we can make sure we have enough materials for everyone. More info...

This course covers specific Clinical Thai Bodywork treatments for hip, thigh, knee and groin pain. These are very common pain conditions that therapists often see in their practice. Myofascial causes are frequently responsible even for pain that seems to originate in and around major joints, such as the hip or knee. CTB techniques use the highly effective asanas of Thai massage, informed by knowledge of trigger point areas and western clinical approaches. We are very often highly effective at not just relieving these pain conditions, but eleminating them entirely. CTB Fundamentals must be attended prior to attending this course. Students should have familiarity with the relevant muscular anatomy and/or AP1 credit as well as Level 1 Thai Massage; Level 2 Thai Massage is recommended. It is recommended that in preparation, students read either Travell and Simons' Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction, Volume 1 relating to these pain areas, or equivalent sections in Claire Davies' Trigger Point Workbook. Learn to work on large or heavily muscled clients in a way that is highly beneficial for you the practitioner as well as for the client. Asana variations using feet, legs and knees allow the therapist to provide broad, deep pressure without endangering the hands, wrists or shoulders. In this class, we learn a 3-hour treatment sequence that employs all treatment attitudes. This is an excellent way for the practitioner to safely work with athletes and other clients who require deeper pressure without putting stress on themselves. As in all of our courses, we maintain a strong therapeutic focus in our teaching, guiding the student in how to work with specific issues of pain or dysfunction. We employ the principles of Clinical Thai Bodywork to teach the student patterns of pain and its origins while using HandsFree or Commoner style techniques. We teach HandsFree 2 once a year. This course more than doubles your HandsFree repertoire from HandsFree 1, and gives you an amazing set of tools for working in all areas of the body. HandsFree 1 is a prerequisite. More info...
